Within the Conference, the Monitoring Report on Observance of the Right to Vote of Persons with Disabilities During the 2015 Local Elections was presented. The report was developed by the Centre for Legal Assistance to Persons with Disabilities with the support of the US Embassy to Chisinau, within the project “Participation of Persons with Disabilities from Moldova in  Political and Public Life”.

The ombudsman mentioned the importance of the topic addressed within the Conference. MihailCotorobai stated on this occasion again that the fundamental rights and freedoms of the persons with disabilities must be ensure with the involvement and participation of the latter. He also reminded that in his earlier recommendations he called for the improvement of the voting procedures for the persons with disabilities. Mr. Cotorobai informed the participants that the Regulation on Establishment of the Expert Council for Providing Consultative Assistance to the Ombudsperson Office in Monitoring the Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilitieswas approved on December 30, 2015. 
At this stage, the commission for selecting the members of the Council of Experts has been established.

Other subjects discussed within the event were the achievements made by the Central Election Commission during the 2015 local elections and the actions planned in the future to improve access to voting for the persons with disabilities, as well as the Report “Right of the Persons with Disabilities to Participate in Political and Public Life.”
