On October 15, the employees of CHRM’s Comrat Representative Office carried out some lectures at „Gh.Gaidarji” high school on the topic: What is domestic violence and how it can be combated. The pupils from higher grades which have been present at the classes conducted on this topic were able to ask questions and express their views on the issue.
On the day of campaign start the Head of CHRM’s Comrat Representative Office, Svetlana Mironova gave an interview to radio station "GRT" in which made reference to domestic violence situation in Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri), women rights observance as a whole and of rural women in particular.
On 16 and 17 October, Svetlana Mironova and CHRM Representative Office employee Serghei Rudevici, organized one training for police officers from police inspectorates of Cimişlia and Basarabeasca cities. During the training were discussed the domestic violence types, problems with implementation of the Law on domestic violence nr. 45.
It was mentioned that policemen are those who have extremely difficult mission to settle conflicts in families, prevent family violence and to take appropriate actions in order to protect the victims of aggression acts. The police officers expressed their regret at the fact that other state bodies avoid getting involved in solving such problems. Also police officers have revealed that only with limited resources of the police, in the absence of rehabilitation centers is inconceivable to combat this phenomenon.
At the meeting was advanced several proposals for amending and supplementing the legislation in this certain field. These will be systematized by CHRM’s Comrat Representative Office staff with presentation to ombudsmen for formulation of recommendations aimed to improve the legal framework related to combating and preventing the domestic violence.
