Within the antitorture campaign carried out by the CHRM during 26 June – 25 July, the Head of Cahul Representative Office of the Center for Human Rights of Moldova, Anatolie Cravcenco held on 09 June 2014 a lecture for the employees of the Penitentiary Institution Nr. 1 in Taraclia.
The official representative of the CHRM spoke about the National Mechanism for Torture Prevention activity, about results and gaps in the field. Anatolie Cravcenco referred to the need for strict adherence to national and international standards on detention of persons who are in state custody. He stressed that Moldova committed to ensure the rights these categories of persons, ratifying international instruments that provide tolerance "zero" to the actions that may be invoked under Article 3 of the ECHR.
At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Penitentiary nr. 1 from Taraclia, Major of Justice Igor Banu told about the successes achieved in terms of improving the detention conditions and referred to the measures that will be taken in the future.
