The Center for Human Rights of Moldova in common with the European Center„Pro Europa” in premises of Comrat State University on april 24, held theScientific-practical conference "The particularities of social inclusion of various ethnic groups representatives in the Republic of Moldova"
At the event were debated topics regarding political and legal particularities of the social inclusion of ethnic groups in our country, ethno-psychological research of ethnic identity, state policy regulating interethnic dialogue processes. It was also presented the project "Transparency and responsibility through the joint actions of the media and civil society institutions in Moldova".
The event was attended by Parliamentary Advocate Tudor Lazar, Deputy Head of People's Assembly of UTA Gagauzia, Alexandru Tarnavschi, Head of the Centre "Pro Europe, Ludmila Mitioglo, Head of National Minorities Section of Republic of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences, Ion Duminica scholars working in the field of ethno-psychology, representatives of Bulgarian, Russian, Polish ethnic comunities, professors of Comrat State University.
The Parliamentary Advocate, Tudor Lazăr, noted that international law condemns discrimination, whatever criterion is invoked. Both the Constitution as well as international instruments to which the country is party require equal treatment of all persons.
The Ombudsman also revealed that ethnic stereotypes based on ethnic criterion lead to behavior which is manifested by negatively charged actions and emotions and can lead to tragic consequences such as discrimination and violence. That is why, discrimination and intolerance should not find place in our society.
Tudor Lazar pointed out that the law on ensuring of equality, adopted on 25.05.2012, is based on two directives of the Council of Europe no. 2000/43 called the Racial Equality Directive and Directive no. 2000/78 - Directive of equality in employment field.
These directives prohibit direct and indirect discrimination on job seeking, training, education, health, social security and so on, on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, age, disability and sexual orientation. Law comes to increase the employment level of labor force of different groups representatives that are currently undervalued in the labor market, such as in our case are ethnic minorities.
The Parliamentary Advocate underlined that the aim of the conference is to identify some policies that could promote the integration of ethnic minorities to labor market and to combat the discrimination.
All participants stressed that the citizens of our country have always been tolerant towards other cultures, national and religious traditions, as in Moldova have lived at all times representatives of various ethnicities.
Head of National Minorities Section of Republic of Moldova’s Academy of Sciences,Ion Duminica, said that some discriminatory actions against Roma ethnic representatives are determined by the stereotypes that exist in our society.
Deputy Head of People's Assembly of UTA Gagauzia, Alexandru Tarnavschi, saluted the organization of such conference in Comrat, noting that representatives of various ethnic groups living in this area. The official representative has expressed the opinion that the inhabitants of the administrative unit should pay attention to learn the state language, without diminishing the importance of Gagauz identity and specific culture development. The Head of CHRM representative Office in Comrat, Svetlana Mironova noted that Republic of Moldova should create favorable conditions for strengthening unity and civil peace, developing the intercultural dialogue.
The participants of the event concluded that the Multiethnic character should be conceived as a treasure to be fully exploited for the development and prosperity of our state, values and common objectives are the basis of civic cohesion in Republic of Moldova.
