The Ombudsman Aurelia Grigoriu participated to „We can do it! 2014” forum.

On 24 October 2014 the ombudsman Aurelia Grigoriu, with the CHRM consultant Liudmila Bodrug participated in meetings organized by the “Speranţa şi Sănătatea”  (tr. Hope and Health) Association in collaboration with a German NGO  Gesellschaft für Europabildung (GEB). The forum was attended by young people, including young people with disabilities from 11 countries of the world.

The Parliamentary advocate presented the situation of people with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova, spoke about the successes and failures of the state and national institutions of human rights promotion in the realization of fundamental rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities the Republic of Moldova, referring to the aspects reflected in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and answered on the young people questions.

During the meeting the CHRM consultant Liudmila Bodrug presented the information "Equal opportunities for people with disabilities in the Republic of Moldova", which referred in particular to the state's achievements in adapting of national legislation to international standards concerning the persons with disabilities rights realization, achievements and state obligations,  actions performed within the monitoring activities as well the Ombudsman's recommendations .

In the discussion with the Ombudsman, young people appreciated the fact that Moldova has ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, was discussed the fact that access to infrastructure as well as the poor road surfaces still remains problematical for persons with disabilities, etc.

The exchange of experiences between young people with disabilities in many countries has a 10 years history, the activities entails the exchange of experience and dialogue for intercultural exchange of values and discussion of issues related to disability and analysis of the situation of disabled people in different states.

On this project participated young people from Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Russia, France, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Georgia, Romania and Moldova

The Ombudsman pointed out the importance of the NGO’s activity in this particular area as well the importance of sharing experiences between different countries worldwide.
