The meeting of ombudsman Tudor Lazăr with leaders of several youth organizations representating ethnic minorities from Moldova

Various issues related to the activity of the national ombudsman institution, the situation regarding the rights observance the Republic of Moldova were discussed during the meeting of ombudsman Tudor Lazăr, the Head of instructive programs and public relations Natalia Vişanu, principal consultant Calolina Cazaciuc with the representatives of several organizations of young people from different ethnic groups in our country: Ukrainian Youth Association "Zlogoda" Minority Rights Group Europe, Bulgarian community from Moldova, Ukrainian community from Moldova, the Association of Ukrainians "Împreună" National Roma Center.

The meeting took place in the context of the project "EU Pro-Active", financed by EU, implemented jointly by the mentioned organizations, which aims to promote European values ​​and principles of cooperation within the Eastern Partnership among national minority communities from our country. Within 10 meetings with representatives of various public institutions and international organizations the leaders of youth organizations that meet different ethnic groups will establish a dialogue and collaboration relations.

Ombudsman Tudor Lazăr welcomed the presence of youth organizations leaders in CHRM, noting that the issue of the rights of ethnic minorities observance in our country is constant on the agenda of the national Office of human rights protection.

Tudor Lazăr, Natalia Vişanu and Carolina Cazaciuc provided details regarding the actions of national minorities rights observance monitoring, promotion of the rights of this category of people which were made by employees of the Centre for Human Rights. Speakers have referred in particular to the actions of the campaign for tolerance promotion conducted at the end of last year, which included several activities on this topic. The young people were also informed about the CHRM reform process, about the People’s advocate Office duties and current actions undertaken by its employees and the modality of petitions submission.

The questions of yang leaders were mainly focused on Republic of Moldova ratification issue of European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, monitoring activities by CHRM of human rights observance in eastern regions of the country and combat of domestic violence.

The Ombudsman and CHRM employees present on the meeting expressed their openness in establishment of collaboration with representatives of organizations that meet young people of different ethnic groups from Moldova. At the same time, the leaders of youth organizations were thankful to Office of People’s Advocate servants for the information presented, showing an interest in maintaining in the future of a close relations of cooperation with the employees of national institution for human rights protection.
