On 13 November 2014, Igor Muntean, superior consultant of the People’s Advocate Office in the context of campaign “Family without violence, society without violence!” carried out a lecture for the policemen of the Floreşti police inspectorate. On this event participated 75 police officers.
During the meeting Igor Muntean spoke about the phenomena of domestic violence and the serious consequences for individuals and society, the importance of respecting the rule of law and the police role in the prevention and combat of violence cases, about current methods of counteracting domestic violence, about the police obligation to respond promptly to any notification and victims information regarding their rights.
Also, the policemen were informed about the Republic of Moldova’s lost cases to the European Court in the field of domestic violence, about the Council’s of Europe Convention provisions on prevention of domestic violence and violence against women.
The policemen discussed about processual difficulties that they have to overcome but also the problems linked to people's perception of domestic violence phenomena. During discussions was underlined the necessity of training for police officers in this field as well to streamline the legal tools in the concerned field.
During the meeting the policemen were also informed about the role of People’s Advocate Office in promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
At the end the Head of Floreşti police inspectorate Valeriu Cîrţica, expressed his gratitude for the lecture and reiterated the Police Inspectorate readiness to cooperate with the Institution of People’s Advocate Office in prevention and combat of domestic violence.
