A lecture within the campaign “Family without violence, society without violence!” in Cahul police inspectorate

On 7 November 2014,Gheorghe Bosîi, principal consultant of the Center for Human Rights from Moldova andAnatolie Cravcencothe Head of the CHRM’s Cahul Representative Officein the context of campaign “Family without violence, society without violence!”, held a lecture for the policemen of the Cahul police inspectorate.

During the meeting Gheorghe Bosîi spoke about the phenomena of domestic violence and the serious consequences for individuals and society, the police role in the prevention and combat of violence cases, about current methods of counteracting domestic violence, specified by national legislation and measures needed to decrease this phenomenon.

The policemen discussed about processual difficulties that they have to overcome but also the problems linked to people's perception of domestic violence phenomena.  During discutions was underlined the necessity of training for police officers in this field and the need to streamline the legal tools that are available to law enforcement bodies.

The Head of social assistance and family protection section Ivan Coltuc, present on the discussion noted the need for increase the efficiency of legal mechanisms to counteract domestic violence through more firm involvement of the police in cases of domestic violence.

Anatolie Cravcenco expressed the CHRM’s Cahul Representative Officereadiness to intervene promptly in defending of victims of domestic violence rights in order to provide them all the support within limits of competence.

Present policemen were also informed about the role of People’s Advocate Office in promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
