On 12 November 2015 the senior consultant of the Ombudsperson's Office – Gheorghe Bosii – met with the students of the Economic Sciences Faculty of Moldova State University. The event took place on the occasion of ten-days’ Youth Days, organized by the students.
The responsibilities and obligations towards future generations, as well as their key-aspects included poverty eradication and the fight against inequality; ensuring a healthy life, education and involvement of women and children; protection of the ecosystem for the good of all societies and children; building a safe and peaceful society, and creating strong state institutions; strengthening worldwide solidarity for the sake of sustainable development, were the main topics that were tackled in the discussions with the students. The students were also informed about the factors influencing the rights of future generations – population ageing, low birth rate, young people’s health status, climate changes, which are to be responsibly managed by the state authorities.
The students tackled issues related to the financial and demographic burden, and the fact that future generations have no future. Several practical aspects of these issues were debated on. The young asked about the current economic situation, their involvement in decision-making, future of the labour market in Moldova.
At the end of the day, the conclusion arrived to was that human rights and freedoms are values that are to be catered for by the authorities and by every person in particular as well. The responsibility towards future generations should be the driving-force of today’s generation, as the decisions that are made today have an impact on the future.
