On the initiative of Veaceslav Ursu, head of Varnita representative office of the Ombudsperson's Office, a working meeting on the observance of the right to a healthy environment and the risks for people’s health in relation to biological and environmental factors was held on 12 October 2016 at the representative office. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Anenii Noi Public Health Center, Anenii Noi District Division for Food Safety, Ecological Inspection and the  local public authority from Varnita village.

The participants to the meeting discussed about the mechanisms to be used by the relevant authorities in charge for the surveillance and control to ensure a healthy environment in the context of detecting swine fever virus on the territory of the Republic of Moldova and as a result of reviewing a petition on the illegal operation of a farm raising cattle and pigs, located within the built-up area of Varnita village.

They also agreed that the environment and its protection have a status of fundamental right, which should become the core of a public policy of collective interest, of a solidarity expressed not only within the limits of the country. In addition, the Government must take all the measures needed to protect the environment and ensure population’s health in relation to biological and environmental factors.

After the meeting, the participants and the head of the representative office paid a visit to the farm raising cattle and pigs operating illegally within the built-up area of Varnita village in order to learn more about its operation and to take proper measures to cease its illegal operation.
