The People's Advocate, Mihail Cotorobai, met the Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe

Mihail Cotorobai met the co-rapporteur of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Valentina Leskaj, who came to Chisinau on a documentation visit.

During the meeting were discussed issues related to the situation in the human rights of Moldova, also the functionality of the Ombudsman Institution.

The Ombudsman provided details about the reform of the Ombudsman Institution and difficulties in this process, talked about the establishment of the newly formed Council for the Prevention of Torture. The Ombudsman said that although at this stage he managed to do several actions related to the reorganization of the institution, in accordance with the requirements of Law 52, there is much to do before the Office fully corresponds to the Paris Principles.

Mihail Cotorobai showed that among major human rights issues are those related to ensuring access to justice, respecting the right to security and personal dignity, health and social protection. The Ombudsman observes the issue of access to health care, prevention and combating domestic violence and violence against women. In this context, Michael Cotorobai said that the Office of the Ombudsman advocates for improving the Law 45 on preventing and combating domestic violence and for our country to ratify the Istanbul Convention.

Speaking about the Filat and Petrenco cases, the People's Advocate revealed that they have been constantly monitored by the Office of the Ombudsman.
