The ombudsman MihailCotorobai participated in the General Meeting of the European Ombudsman Institute held in Mainz, Germany, on September 20-21, inst.

Within the works of the meeting, the new leadership of the Association was elected. The position of president of EOI was assigned to Dieter Burgard, ombudsperson in the German region LandesRheinland-Pfalz.

The EOI members established that next week a resolution of the Association would be adopted on the situation of refugees, which will be disseminated to all European institutions.

The following EOI General Meeting will be held in September 2017 in Bucharest, when the anniversary of 20 years from the establishment of the Ombudsperson’s Institution in Romania will be celebrated.

European Ombudsman Institute gathers 110 institutions of the ombudsperson in Europe. The national institution for human rights protection in Moldova is a member of EOI since October 1998, having joined this organization shortly after the creation of the Centre for Human Rights of Moldova.

It was for the first time that People’s Advocate MihailCotorobai participated in the works of the EOI General Meeting. The attendance of this event gave to the Moldovan ombudsman, who is at the beginning of his term, the chance to meet and establish contacts with his counterparts in different European countries.

EOI is an association with the office in Innsbruck, Austria. It is a scientific, independent and not-for-profit organization, which conducts research in the area of human rights, the protection of the civil rights and the institution of the ombudsperson; promotes experience exchange at national, European, and international level.
