The Ombudsman, MihailCotorobai: I am convinced that this initiative will earn good results

The ombudsman, MihailCotorobai, has participated in the launch of the first Diversity Internship Program dedicated to persons from vulnerable groups.

The program aims at stimulating the Moldovan organizations and companies to develop opportunities for internships for vulnerable groups at national level.

The ombudsman welcomed the launch by the United Nations Organization in Moldova of the first Diversity Internship Program dedicated to the persons from vulnerable groups, mentioning that this initiative will certainly earn good results.

He also stated that the Ombudsperson’s Office keeps an eye on the issues related to the protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities. In the past year alone, the Ombudsperson Institution organized an international conference, a number of meetings, and many promotion activities on this topic. The issue of social inclusion of persons with disabilities and those discriminated in employment have been frequently raised by the citizens who filed petitions to the Ombudsperson, and they are also highlighted in the annual reports of the Ombudsperson Institution, MihailCotorobai added.

In addition, he mentioned that just the day before, the Ombudsperson’s Office started the contest-based selection of the members of the Council of Experts for monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

The Council of Experts will be established for the purpose of providing advice and assistance to the Ombudsperson’s Office in monitoring the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, promoting and protecting the rights of the persons with disabilities.

The Ombudsman expressed his belief that a lot of opportunities would open for the persons who would participate in the program launched by the UN. This will enable them to fully integrate in the society and will offer them new possibilities for asserting themselves. The People’s Advocate also underscored the importance of organizing the event on March 1st, on the occasion of the international Zero Discrimination Day.
