The Ombudsperson for Children's Rights discussed with juveniles serving their sentence in prison about the way their rights and interests are defended.
Children have informed Maia Bănărescu about how their right to healthcare, protection from abuse and neglect, rest, education are respected. Minors complained, in particular, about the quality of food they receive, insufficient medicines and that they are subject to sanctions.
Children's Ombudsperson asked whether the right to communicate with parents and other relatives is granted, the prison authorities gave assurances that these rights are fully respected.
Maia Bănărescu spoke with minors about the importance of obeying the rules of the prison and the peaceful expression of their grievances, complaints, demands.
The Ombudsperson for Children's Rights has emphasized the importance of the involvement of minors in various cognitive activities, offering them new knowledge, skills which would help them after the punishment to integrate fully into society.
The Ombudsperson welcomed the fact that minors are involved in different activities to cultivate their aesthetic sense, such as guitar courses organized by actors from the National Theatre "Mihai Eminescu".
