On 20 July 2016, the Ombudsperson for Children's Rights, Maia Bănărescu, had a meeting with the Swedish Ambassador to Moldova, Signe Burgstaller.
Maia Bănărescu has informed Signe Burgstaller on her priorities at the beginning of her mandate as Ombudsperson for Children, and the role and importance of the Ombudsman Institution in Moldova on the protection of children's rights.
Maia Bănărescu talked about the issues in the field of child rights in Moldova, referring in particular to the situation of minors in detention and the lack of a temporary placement center for street children.
Children's Ombudsperson noted that during her term,the Office will investigate compliance with the right to health of children, at the first phase will monitor children's access to emergency services and the equipping of ambulances with necessary gear.
Particular attention will be paid to preventing domestic violence and labor exploitation of children.
The meeting also brought in discussion the Swedish model of protection of children's rights.
