The Children's Rights Ombudsperson, Maia Bănărescu, met with representatives of the Chisinau Municipal Department for Child Protection.
During the meeting, the Ombudsperson addressed issues related to the enforcement of child rights in difficult and risk situation, deinstitutionalization of children and their social inclusion and educational, development of family-type services and activities on preventing the separation of children from their parents, empowering parents etc.
The Ombudsperson for Children has advocated for undertaking institutional and legal measures to reorganize residential institutions into a living space for children without parental care out of the residential system.
Another important issue referred to by Maia Bănărescu is the respect for the rights of children in conflict with the law, taking action to prevent juvenile delinquency and the need of multisectoral cooperation for identifying children with deviant behavior, those involved in vagrancy and begging, and creating an temporary placement center for these minors.
The acting Head of the Chişinău Department for Child Protection, Rodica Terehovschi welcomed the proposal of the Ombudsperson on the establishment of such a center, considering it very timely and important, especially that the initiative coincides with the position of the authorities in this matter.
The Children's Rights Ombudsperson, Maia Bănărescu, has announced the availability of working together with public authorities and civil society to ensure that the rights and freedoms of the child are not being violated.
