On 10 December of this year, the Legal and Political Research Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in partnership with the Ombudsperson's Office and Association of Veteran Prosecutors of the Republic of Moldova, General Prosecutor’s Office conducted an international scientific conference dedicated for the commemoration of the first chairperson (Ombudsperson) of the Centre for Human Rights of Moldova.

The topic of the respective conference was “Protection of Human Rights - Constitutional Duty of the Ombudsperson. To the memory of Alexei Potanga - the first director of the Centre for Human Rights of the Republic of Moldova”.

An exhibition of books, works, documents, photos regarding the activity of Alexei Potinga was organized during the conference.

Ion Guceac, the Deputy Chairperson of the Academy for Sciences,  PhD in Law, University lecturer, Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences along with Valeriu Cusnir, the Chairperson of Legal and Political Research Institute, Academy of Sciences of Moldova,PhD in Law, University lecturer and Gheorghe Ghidirim academician spoke about Alexei Potanga’s activity as a scientific researcher. Other participants highlighted his special personal qualities and his merits in promoting respect for human dignity and fundamental human rights.

Svetlana Rusu, representative of the Ombudsperson's Office emphasized his eminent contribution to the foundation of the Institution for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova.
