Children's Ombudsperson monitors the conditions in the summer camps for children

The Ombudsperson for the Protection of Child Rights, Maia Bănărescu, together with representatives of the Child Protection Division, Tamara Tentiuc and Elena Draghici, visited 3 camps in Vadul lui Vodă, Chișinău -  "Cireşarii", Camping "Zâmbetul", "Perlele Nistrului" and "Viişoara" in the village Ciobanovca.

During the visits, the Ombudsman's Office representatives were familiarized with the conditions in the summer camps and have verified the compliance with sanitary and hygienic norms in feeding the children, ensuring their security and healthcare.

The Ombudsperson noted the progress made in 2016 in the organization and operation of summer camps for children. The administration of these camps ensured that the territory be arranged and tidy. It's been taken into account the compliance with sanitary and hygienic conditions of food storage, providing children with clean drinking water.

The management said summer camps are daily visited by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Fire Department, Police Inspectorate, etc.

Following visits to the mentioned institutions and irregularities have been identified: in some summer camps children are insufficiently involved in activities; activities are not always attractive and diversified so that every child is interested; children in some institutions drink water from the tap; menu is insufficiently varied; fruits are included in the menu only once a day; some institutions don't give fresh fruits and vegetables to the children at all; spaces where children live are not sufficiently ventilated; not all windows have insect nets.

Children's Ombudsperson informed the Minister of Education about the irregularities detected.

Also during visits  trainings in promotion and respect of fundamental rights were conducted. Maia Bănărescu spoke about the role of the Children's Ombudsperson and national and international institutions in the sphere of human rights.

Visits of the Ombudsperson for the Protection of Human Rights and the representatives of the Children's Rights Division at summer camps will continue throughout all the summer holiday period.
