The Ombudsperson's Office joined the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI)

The Ombudsperson's Office joined the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI), Ombudsperson Mihail Cotorobai participated in the General Assembly of ENNHRI, in Utrecht (Netherlands) during 30 November to 1 December 2015.

The ENNHRI Progress Report was presented and its 2016 Action Plan was approved at the meeting. The new members of the ENNHRI Office were elected.

Four round tables were organized at the assembly, focused on the following topics: Asylum and migration; observance of social and economic rights; national institutions in the field of human rights and (post) conflict situations; Sustainable Development Goals.

The Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Refugees and Migrants, and the Merida Declaration on the Role of National Human Rights Institutions in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development were adopted at this assembly of ENNHRI.

Ombudspersons from 33 states participated in the assembly.

ENNHRI was officialised in 2013, it is based in Brussels and includes the Ombudsperson’s Offices from Europe.

The Ombudsperson is also a member of the Association of Ombudsmen and Mediators of Francophonie (OMMF), of the European Ombudsman Institute, and of the International Ombudsman Institute.
