INVITATION TO THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Dear media representatives, we invite you to take part in the National Conference “Implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Moldova: from Wishes to Reality”.

The eventwill take place in the small hall of the Palace of the Republic on 8 December of this year at 09:00 am. A press conference is scheduled for 9:25 am after the opening session. 

Observance of child’s right to social assistance and protection, education, health care, protection against abuses, trafficking and exploitation – these and other issues will be discussed during the national conference organized by the Ombudsperson's Office, with the support of UNDP and UNICEF Moldova, as well as MFA of Norway.

The objective of the conference is to provide a discussion platform between representatives of public authorities and the civil society on the progresses made by the Republic of Moldova in practical implementation of the Convention. It intends to assess the extent to which the authorities have implemented the Convention and identify viable solutions for their implementation and observance in the Republic of Moldova.

Dafina GERCHEVAUN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova; Nune Mangasaryan, UNICEF Representative of Moldova; Liliana PALIHOVICI Deputy Speaker of the Parliament; Oxana DOMENTI, Chairwoman of the Committee on Social Protection, Health and Family,Corina FUSU, Minister of Education announced their intention to participate in the Conference. The representatives of central and local public authorities in charge of the rights of the child and representatives of the civil society organizations active in this area are also expected to participate (the Conference agenda is annexed).

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child entered into force for our country on 25 February 1993. According to the data provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, one in five persons was under 18 years of age in the Republic of Moldova as of 1 January 2015.
