On 18 June the Parliamentary advocate Tudor Lazar attended the round table "Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: evolutions in the process of implementation (during the years 2010-2013)."
The event was held on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the protection of national minorities adopted by the Council of Europe and in the context of the start of development process on the next periodic report regarding the implementation of the Framework Convention for the protection of national minorities in the Republic of Moldova, that according to the calendar of the reporting mechanism will be presented on February 1, 2014.
At the roundtable were discussed the progress and achievements of recommendations made by relevant bodies of the Council of Europe in the final documents adopted within the third cycle of monitoring on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the protection of national minorities in the Republic of Moldova held during the 2009 -2010; the Third Opinion of the Council of Europe Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities regarding Republic of Moldova, ACFC / OP / III (2009), adopted on 29 June 2009; the Resolution of the Committee of Ministers on the implementation of the Framework Convention for the protection of national minorities provisions by the Republic of Moldova Res CMN (2010)6, adopted on 5 May 2010.
In this regard, the Parliamentary advocate stressed the importance of the interethnic dialogue in the context of ethnic minorities’ rights observance. He considers such discussions useful and is confident that Republic of Moldova has the necessary tools to ensure the compliance and protection of national minorities’ rights.
