Within the anti-torture campaign carried out by the CHRM during 26 June – 25 July, the employees of Cahul Representative Office of the Center for Human Rights of Moldova held on 30 June 2014 a lecture for the employees of the Penitentiary Institution Nr. 5 in Cahul.
On the meeting the employees of the Penitentiary Institutions Department were informed about the activity of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture over 7 years. Were mentioned the obtained results with pointing of priorities in this area.
The Head of Cahul Representative Office Mr. Anatolie Cravcenco highlighted among others, the importance of raising the professional training level of Penitentiary staff. He noted that from the NPM activity experience was found that majority of convicts dissatisfaction reported to the Institution of human rights protection were caused by relationships between detainees and Penitentiary staff members.
During this event, the Head of Penitentiary Institution Nr 5, Lt. Colonel of Justice Alexandru Malina, spoke about the obtained successes in technical and material improvement of the Penitentiary, he spoke about the existing problems and the measures that will be taken to eliminate the identified by the CHRM Representative Office from Cahul irregularities.
