During the period of 3-14 December the People’s Advocate Office planes several actions for the Decade for human rights. The 2018th edition of the Decade will be dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
During this period, upon the initiative of People’s Advocate in the primary and secondary education institutions there will be conducted thematic instructions on principles and values of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
On December 3 when it is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the staff of People’s Advocate Office in collaboration with the representatives of the National Council of Youth and Association of Blind Persons will organize an awareness raising action on problems the persons with sensorial disabilities as regards the access to public space. In this sense, the route walked by a blind person from the house he lives to the social objectives will be walked together with the journalists. In this way, the attention of the representatives of Chisinau Hall will be drawn on the existent barriers in Telecentru sector, where several blind persons live in their access to the public space. This action was inspired by the subject of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities announced for 2018 - „Enabling persons with disabilities and insurance of their inclusion and equality”.
On December 4th, the Office of People’s Advocate will be the co-organizer of the Annual conference „Rights of persons with disabilities on the both banks of Nistru river – realities and perspectives” together with the Center for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Association „Motivație”, Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities, supported by UN Officefor Human Rights and IM Swedish Development Partner. The event will take place on November 4th, in Radisson Blue hotel, „Begonia” room.
On 6th of December, the Office of People’s Advocate organizes the Forum of Human Rights Defenders. The event is occasioned by the 20th anniversary from the adoption of UN Declaration on human rights defenders, the 10th anniversary from the adoption of the Declaration of the European Council on human rights defenders, 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At the Forum, the Office of People’s Advocate plans to discuss the situation of human rights defenders in the Republic of Moldova through the light of the preliminary recommendations of the Special Rapporteur of the United Nations on human rights defenders recently made public when visiting the Republic of Moldova on June 25-29, 2018; the role of the Office of People’s Advocate and international organizations in promoting and protecting the human rights defenders and values consigned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
At the Forum are invited the representatives of NGO’s from the field of human rights, journalists; lawyers, representatives of the Lawyers’ Union; representatives of OHCHR, PNUD Moldova, OSCE, European Council.
On the International Day of Human Rights, on December 10th, the Office of Peoples Advocate will present during a conference the results of a sociological survey “Perceptions over the human rights in the Republic of Moldova”. The survey refers to the perception of population on the situation of human rights in the Republic of Moldova and it is especially focused on measuring the level of knowledge, attitude and population experiences in relation to them. The objective of the survey is the appreciation of evolutions or involutions in the field of human rights observance if compared to the situation of 2016 year when a similar survey was realized.
During the period of December 3-14 the staff of People’s Advocate Office will organize trainings, will participate to Radio and TV shows.
